Guidelines for Grant Applications

Any contributions of funds by the CDSF are limited to bona fide charitable 501(c)(3) organizations, educational groups and organizations dedicated to the art and science through either professional or public initiatives primarily in the Chicago area and state of Illinois. Grants are limited to a maximum of $10,000.

Restrictions

The CDSF does not fund the following:
  • Discretionary or emergency requests
  • Individual research projects
  • Staff salaries or expenses
  • General operational expenses as distinct from project costs

Applicants should be aware that the CDSF should not be considered a continuing source of annual funding.

Responsibility of the funding recipient

The recipient of a grant must use funds awarded for the specific purpose for which they were intended. Any funds not used for such must be returned.

Within one year, CDSF requires a written evaluation and a detailed accounting report for the grant awarded including how the grant funds are utilized. The grantee must list the CDSF as a donor in publicity materials supportive of the grant activity and (at a minimum) in the annual report of the grantee.

The evaluation of the grantee project will influence the likelihood of any future grants to your organization. The CDSF has a right to a site visit of the grantee.

Application procedures

The grant application must be completed and the request submitted in type-written format on the organization’s letterhead and attached to the grant application. Fax and emails will not be accepted.
